Converge :: Concubine
The summer I graduated high school was the year Converge's Jane Doe album came out. The first song I ever heard from them was Concubine. I was in a punk/ska band at the time, and my bandmates were trying to explain to me this new heavy hardcore sound. Previously I was listening to Silverchair, Nirvana, and Marilyn Manson. But hearing Converge completely changed my life and my musical tastes. At the time it was the heaviest, fastest music I had ever heard. It broke the boundaries of what I knew music to be.

These beautiful lyrics, combined with that music melted my brain and allowed me to be creative in a new way I didn't think was even possible at that time. This band is what lead me down the road to more hardcore, metalcore, grindcore, and then deathcore bands.
