The Story Behind the Brand
Joey and Aldora started screen-printing and selling individual t-shirts they designed from a humble two-bedroom apartment in Montreal, Canada since 2008. They named the brand Akumu Ink (pronounced: akoo·moo ink), based on the Japanese translation for 'nightmare'.
In 2014, Joey and Aldora moved to Southern California, USA. The husband and wife duo still create each design themselves and come up with new products to merchandise, while making time to pack and ship out all online and retail orders. They also travel the country setting up a booth at about 20 comic conventions a year.
Akumu Ink merchandise is available in select boutiques and shops throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, and Japan. A full list can be found here.
As a socially-aware brand, Akumu Ink is proud to be a part of multiple charitable projects over the years. Their latest project was refurbishing old shirts into pillows for the homeless: Read more here.
